“Opposition Platform - For Life” calls on the Verkhovna Rada to address the Normandy Four countries on the need to hold an urgent meeting
The OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE faction has registered the draft resolution “On the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the leaders, parliaments and governments of the Normandy Four countries on an urgent expanded meeting for putting an end to military escalation and for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine”.
Opposition MPs emphasize that the protracted conflict in eastern Ukraine, the inaction of the Ukrainian authorities towards its settlement and towards implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution No. S / RES / 2202 (2015) on the approval of the “Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements” lead to a deterioration of the situation in the country as a whole, violation of the rights and freedoms of citizens, and the absence of the environment to restore the country’s territorial integrity.
“This situation, exacerbated by the closure of checkpoints and quarantine restrictions, requires urgent measures to be taken to introduce fundamental changes in public policy with the assistance of the international community. An expanded meeting in the Normandy format will help end the military escalation in eastern Ukraine and intensify the peace process,” the document says.
The resolution provides for the adoption of an appeal by the Verkhovna Rada to leaders, parliaments and governments of the Normandy Four countries (Germany, Russia, Ukraine, France) with an invitation to hold an expanded meeting to discuss a set of measures for an immediate end to military escalation and a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
