OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE submitted to the Rada a draft law to allow to continue peace talks in Donbas
MPs from the “Opposition Platform - For Life” faction submitted a draft resolution (Reg. No. 4123) “On ensuring the representation of the interests of citizens of Ukraine”. This draft document amends paragraph 4 of the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of July 15, 2020 on conducting local elections, which contradicts the Minsk agreements.
This point became a major stumbling block during the recent discussions of the Trilateral Contact Group and the talks between the advisers to the heads of state of the Normandy Four. It lists the conditions under which elections can be conducted in the uncontrolled territory of Donbas. And these conditions go directly against the Minsk agreements.
The participants in the negotiations between the advisers to the heads of state of the Normandy Four, held in Berlin, and the Trilateral Contact Group have repeatedly stressed that a constructive dialogue is not possible until this item is changed or repealed. This applies to the subject of discussion of all issues, including the exchange of detainees. The abolition of this norm will allow continuing negotiations within the framework of the “Minsk format” on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbas.
