Opposition Platform - For Life calls on the government to cancel the increase in tariffs for housing and communal services
From January 1, 2021, Zelenskyy's government set new prices and tariffs for housing and communal services – a record high in the history of the country.
First, the price of gas for the population, including delivery, increased to UAH 10,783 per thousand cubic meters (on average in Ukraine). This is 26.1% more than in November 2018 (UAH 8548.92 per thousand cubic meters), and 1386% more than at the end of 2013 (UAH 725.4 per thousand cubic meters).
Second, a fixed price for electricity for household consumers was set at UAH 1.68 / kWh and the preferential tariff for the first 100 kWh was abolished. This will hit first of all the most vulnerable segments of the population, in particular single retirees. It is for them that the Ze-government actually increased the electricity tariff by 86.7% – from 0.9 to 1.68 UAH / kWh.
Third, the increase by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities of tariff for centralized water supply and sewerage services in a number of cities. For example, in the capital and other large cities, the tariff for centralized water supply and sewerage services increased by 25.7% – from 21,756 to 27.35 UAH per cubic meter.
Fourth, the increase by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities of tariff for heat production for the population in 2021 in a number of regions will be up to 49.7%. Consequently, the increase in tariffs for heating and hot water supply, which, according to experts, could be up to 30%, is a matter of the near future.
Another increase in tariffs dooms the vast majority of Ukrainians to a sharp decline in living standards, to the refusal to meet even basic needs – normal nutrition and health care. This means that it leads to a reduction in people’s life expectancy. That is nothing but a mechanism of tariff genocide against its own people by the Ukrainian government.
The authorities grossly disregard the most important provisions of the Basic Law of Ukraine, which guarantee social protection to citizens. They also ignored the effective mechanisms for reducing tariffs proposed by Opposition Platform - For Life and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. In particular:
amendments to the Tax Code regarding the abolition of rent for domestic gas used for the needs of the population and VAT on it;
a new formulaic principle for calculating the cost of gas for the population and industry in view of the average cost of imported gas and domestic gas;
writing off debts for housing and communal services for the most vulnerable segments of the population and the possibility of receiving subsidies;
transition to direct gas supplies from Russia, which would reduce the price by 25%, which was agreed by representatives of the Opposition Platform - For Life party and the leadership of the Russian Federation.
All this only confirms that the increase in tariffs is a conscious government policy aimed at destroying Ukraine’s economy and creating intolerable conditions for the Ukrainian people.
Opposition Platform - For Life will not allow the officials to imitate intense activities, play with voters, manipulate public opinion and juggle promises, but at the same time stifle the people with exorbitant tariffs. We demand the adoption of the draft laws submitted by our party to stabilize tariffs in Ukraine and bring them to a level that is affordable for impoverished citizens, and we call on Ukrainians to force the authorities to stop the tariff genocide against their own people.
