Viktor Medvedchuk appealed to the ECHR due to political persecution and violation of human rights
Member of Parliament of Ukraine, Chairman of the Political Council of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” party Viktor Medvedchuk appealed to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg with a complaint about the illegal actions of the Ukrainian authorities and political persecution.
In particular, the politician accused the current regime of the political motivation behind his criminal prosecution, of gross violation of the right to a fair trial, as well as of violation of the right to freedom and personal immunity.
“Taking into account the latest statement of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights about gross violations committed by the Ukrainian authorities when banning the opposition TV channels associated with Medvedchuk, the decision of the ECHR is easy to predict. Alike it is easy to predict the consequences for judges and prosecutors who violated the law to please the big bosses,” MP Renat Kuzmin shared in his post on the Facebook page.
Opposition Platform – For Life also specifies that this case may be considered by the court on a priority basis. That is, one won’t have to wait long for a decision. And this means that the resonance due to the pressure from the Ukrainian authorities on the leader of the largest opposition political force and the second largest faction in Parliament has gone far beyond the country’s borders and has long attracted the attention of the wider community.
