Viktor Medvedchuk: Bіolik enterprise is ready to produce a vaccine against coronavirus for both Ukrainian citizens and exports

The current Ukrainian government continues to ignore any opportunities for cooperation with the Russian Federation related to the supply or production of a vaccine against coronavirus.  What is more, as soon as one learned that the Bіolik enterprise in Kharkiv  could establish the production of the Russian vaccine, representatives of the Ukrainian special services immediately raided there.

Viktor Medvedchuk, the chair of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, MP, said this in his interview to the Russia-24 TV channel, when summarizing results of the meeting with the director of the Russian National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleya Oleksandr Gintsburg and the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kyryl Dmytriyev.

In particular, Viktor Medvedchuk noted that the Ukrainian government stands hostile to any negotiations on the Russian vaccine.

“You know we are in radical opposition to the government. We said, we provided such an opportunity to the Ukrainian authorities and are waiting for reaction from this government. If today we heard a belated reaction – two months later – towards the purchase of the vaccine from Prime Minister Shmyhal, it is unclear how long after we may hear the reaction towards the possibility of production,” the politician said.

At the same time, he noted, a lightning-fast reaction of the Ukrainian special services followed – as soon as it was announced that the Bіolik enterprise in Kharkiv was ready to launch the production of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine immediately showed up.

“We found out what was happening there and how the vaccine could be produced there.  However, according to the current legislation, the vaccine can be produced only when the appropriate permission of the registrar in Ukraine is received,” Viktor Medvedchuk added.

The MP noted that even after the visit of the special services, the company reaffirmed its readiness to produce the Russian vaccine.

“Bіolik made a statement that the enterprise (by the way, the only one in Ukraine, we studied this during a month) is ready to produce a vaccine against coronavirus, namely the Sputnik V vaccine. The production of this vaccine is possible with the equipment that is available at its production site.  They said that the vaccine would be produced only when permission from the registrar in Ukraine, the Ministry of Health, is obtained, both in order to produce and export, and in order to produce for domestic consumption.  There was no vaccine production as such, but there was a process that demonstrated that this production was possible taking account of technological lines and equipment at Bіolik, and Bіolik did not refuse,” the chair of the political council of the opposition party said.

According to the politician, an application to produce the vaccine for exports will be submitted in the coming days.  Nevertheless, the most important one is to the permission from the Ukrainian authorities to produce the vaccine for our citizens.

“In addition, I want to tell you that on Monday, Bіolik will submit an application to authorize the vaccine production for exports at least.  And if the Ukrainian government decides to consider the issue of producing the vaccine for domestic consumption, which we want and will strive for in principle and consistently, then this enterprise will be able to carry out all the processes and produce the Sputnik V vaccine for the vaccination of Ukrainian citizens,” Viktor Medvedchuk concluded.
