PACE approved a motion for a resolution on far-right ideology in Europe authored by MP Voloshyn, “OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE”

On September 24, a regular meeting of one of the key bodies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Bureau, took place to approve a motion authored by a member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE MP Oleg Voloshyn, “OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE”, on a report with the subsequent adoption of a resolution on “The challenge of far-right ideology to democracy and human rights in Europe”. MP Yuliya Lovochkina, a member of the delegation of Ukraine to PACE, also actively participated in drafting the motion. The President of the Assembly, twenty Vice-Presidents, the Chairpersons of the political groups as well as the Chairpersons of the general PACE Committees make up the Bureau of the Assembly.

Upon the Bureau’s decision, the Assembly will soon appoint a rapporteur to take review of this issue, including in the context of radical nationalist movements in Ukraine. It is expected that in 2022 the rapporteur will visit our country, meet with representatives of public organizations, anti-fascist movements, journalists and victims of violence from neo-Nazi groups. Subsequently, PACE will consider a same-name resolution, in which due attention will be paid to the relevant problem in our country.

OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE is consistently fighting against the actualization of far-right movements in Ukraine, in contrast to the current Ukrainian government, which indulges their activities and supports them. These days in Europe, including in Ukraine, right-wing radicals commit crimes against journalists and public activists, carry out attacks on representatives of national minorities, on representatives of the opposition. At the same time, no state can be considered fully democratic if far-right forces feel free themselves.

Now the problem of marginal far-right movements will be officially in the focus of attention of such an authoritative organization as PACE, which means it will be considered at the all-European level.
