Yurii Boyko: The Verkhovna Rada should start immediately work on incorporating the “Steinmeier formula” into Ukrainian legislation

The Ukrainian authorities have not taken a single step to implement the arrangements on the implementation of the Minsk agreements reached in Paris in December 2019 in Normandy format. Angela Merkel made it clear to Volodymyr Zelensky that it is time to implement the agreements signed in Paris.

That is how the co-chair of OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE Yurii Boyko commented on the results of the meeting in Berlin of the President of Ukraine and the Chancellor of Germany.

“The implementation of the Minsk agreements signed five years ago remains the only reliable diplomatic way to resolve the conflict in Donbas. The endorsement of these Agreements by the UN Security Council Resolution (No. S / RES / 2202 (2015) dated February 17, 2015 makes them binding for all parties”, Yurii Boyko noted.

He recalled that for Ukraine this means: to adopt laws on amnesty, on a special procedure for local self-government in ORDLO, on elections in temporarily uncontrolled territories, as well as amending the Constitution.

“On July 12, Zelensky had a moment of truth because in Europe they are used to fulfilling the agreements signed. Instead of signing them first, and then saying that we overreacted and this is unacceptable for us. Therefore, the Verkhovna Rada should start immediately work on incorporating the “Steinmeier formula” into Ukrainian legislation,” the politician emphasized.

The OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE faction, at the very beginning of the tenure of the current parliament, submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a package of legislative initiatives to achieve peace in Ukraine, return territories and people.

“Our stance remains unwavering: we have to do everything possible to reintegrate the temporarily uncontrolled territories. This means that Ukraine must fulfill the Minsk agreements, amend the law on the special status of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and adopt amendments to the Constitution regarding the special status of Donbas. All this is important for the speedy restoration of peace in the country”, the co-chair of the opposition faction summed up.
