Yurii Boyko: The country needs full-fledged self-government, not servants of the anti-national Ze-team

Decentralization and full-fledged local self-government should contribute to the economic and financial independence of the regions, not to dictates from the center and manual distribution of financial resources, as is happening now.  A co-chair of the OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE faction Yurii Boyko said this in his comment to journalists.

“Cynically hiding behind talks about decentralization, the authorities are literally ruining local self-government.  Overwhelming responsibilities without adequate funding weaken local governments and reduce people’s trust in them. Underfinanced expenditures delegated from the center to the localities, according to the Association of Ukrainian Cities, have already exceeded UAH 60 billion,” Yurii Boyko said.

In addition, according to him, serious problems on the ground were caused by the forced administrative-territorial reform initiated by the Ze-team before the elections.

“The government has arbitrarily cut and reshaped the United Territorial Communities (UTCs) and the districts.  This has provoked organizational, financial and managerial confusion and conflict. You add to this that half a million people in the East of the country have been deprived of the right to form their councils. Now the civil-military administrations are in charge there, while people’s problems do not find any solution. This government does not respect people, does not respect their rights.  It pushes the country to debts, crisis and sale wishing to blame local self-government,” the politician noted.

Yurii Boyko stressed that well-developed local self-government is an extremely important institution for Ukrainian democracy, making the state more flexible and protected, especially in times of crisis.

“It is local government that takes care of the quality of people’s life, solves their daily problems, which is especially important now, amidst epidemic and crisis.  However, strong self-government poses uncomfortable questions to the government.  Therefore, now the government is doing everything to weaken and subordinate local councils and city halls, to make them accomplices in the implementation of anti-popular policy.  With threats and pressure, it forces local deputies to create manual coalitions in the councils.  Together with the ‘party of war’ of Poroshenko is pushing by any means the appointment of obedient ‘his people’ to the leadership of councils, he said.

“If the authorities think that there is no political force in Ukraine capable of resisting the policy of destruction of the Ukrainian state and self-government, then they are mistaken,” Yurii Boyko underlined.

“The goal of the OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE party is to carry out real decentralization in Ukraine.  We will do our best to resist the anti-popular scenario of the government and seek real powers for local councils at all levels,” the co-chairman of the opposition political force said.

Yurii Boyko emphasized that these were the very tasks the party went to the local elections with, and the work is falling under these tasks even now.

“We are forming effective popular coalitions in local councils that will defend the rights of communities and work to improve people’s lives.  Our parliamentary faction actively cooperates with local deputies and mayors.  Now, during the period of approval of the state budget, this is especially important.  We will provide communities with a real opportunity to influence government policy and provide a reliable financial base for local self-government.  We will achieve the adoption of the Law on the All-Ukrainian and Local Referendum, guarantee communities and regions the right to independently resolve issues of language, culture and historical memory.  With this, we run for local elections and received support. The work of the party is dedicated to the fulfillment of these tasks even now,” the co-chair of the OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE summed up.
