Yurii Boyko: Opposition Platform - For Life submitted a package of draft laws to overcome the tariff crisis

The government irresponsibly reduced subsidies and deprived people of communal utility benefits, according to the co-chair of the OPPOSITION PLATFORM - FOR LIFE faction Yurii Boyko.

“It is absolutely clear that the crisis in the energy market, which is associated with inflated prices for gas, electricity, and all utility tariffs was created by artificially incompetent decisions of previous governments and failure to take current measures”, Yurii Boyko said in a comment to journalists following the meeting with the Prime Minister and the government’s energy bloc in the Verkhovna Rada.

The politician reminded that Ukraine has enough gas of its own production to cover the needs of the population.

“When the Ukrgazvydobuvannya state company produces 14 billion cubic meters of gas, and 10 billion should be directed to the needs of the population, its cost is about UAH 3 thousand with all taxes and increased investment allowances” the MP said.

“Therefore, our unequivocal position is that Ukrainian gas of our own production should be sold to people at reasonable prices”, the co-chair of the opposition faction emphasized.

Yurii Boyko reminded once again that the Opposition Platform - For Life faction registered in the Verkhovna Rada a draft law to immediately reduce the cost of gas sold to the population by 20% (No. 2126 On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine on Taxation when Pricing Natural Gas for the Needs of the Population).

“Adoption of this draft law will allow to obtain gas quickly and efficiently at reduced prices”, he said.

In addition, according to him, it is necessary to stop deceiving people and sign direct agreements with Gazprom to get gas 25% cheaper than it is now under various schemes.

“The same Russian gas is produced through third parties for USD 100 more than it would cost under direct contracts, and this also places an additional burden on the economy of our country, on people, on industry, on all those who consume it today”, the politician said.  .

The Opposition Platform - For Life faction also demands the return of full benefits and subsidies, which the current government continues to deprive even during the protests.

“Large families, migrants, the least protected have lost benefits.  It is time to stop this policy – everyone who needs it should get help from the state”, Yurii Boyko said.

The co-chair of the Opposition Platform - For Life faction noted that the solution of the tariff issue depends on decisions of the current government.

“The government has promised to do everything possible to reduce tariffs. We will follow up that this is done, otherwise people will stay alone again with their problems”, Yurii Boyko summed up.
