Yurii Boyko: 2021 budget has to become a “save lives” budget
The amendments introduced by the government to the draft state budget for 2021 following the first reading did not improve, but worsened it. In this view, the OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE party will not support the 2021 budget if it does not increase expenditures on medicine and support to citizens. This was stated by the co-chair of the opposition faction Yurii Boyko.
“We are criticizing this draft budget not because we are represent the opposition, but because it is really bad. Over the past two months, the epidemic situation has deteriorated catastrophically, the socio-economic situation has worsened, but the government has decided to increase spending on security forces only. It is clear that we cannot vote for such a draft. And it is not clear who will be able to vote for him at all,” Yurii Boyko said.
The politician emphasized that the basic feedback of the OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE party regarding the draft state budget still refers to the lack of full-scale financing for the healthcare sector and the government unwillingness to support the own citizens and the own economy amidst the crisis.
“We are able to provide financing for the healthcare sector at the level of 5% of GDP, as prescribed in the legislation. We have the opportunity to increase the income of those who do not even earn a real subsistence minimum. To do this, one only needs to redistribute funds in the budget, reducing costs that are not due to the need for saving and supporting our citizens. The 2021 budget should be a “save lives” budget. And we will demand it in the parliament,” the co-chair of the OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE summed up.
