Rabinovych sues Kravchuk for Donbas

The co-chair of the “Opposition Platform - For Life” political party MP Vadym Rabinovych has addressed the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov with a request to bring to justice the first President of Ukraine, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group Leonid Kravchuk and enter the information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. The reason is Kravchuk’s public appeals, which carry propaganda for a split within the nation and a threat to territorial integrity, which can lead to the destruction of statehood.

As evidence, MP Rabinovych cites an interview with Leonid Kravchuk dated June 5, 2021 with the Rendezvous program, which is aired on the Channel 5 TV channel.

“In this interview, the former President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG on the settlement of the conflict in the eastern Ukraine, in fact, calls for changing the borders of the territory of Ukraine and incites to obstruct the legitimate activities of the “Opposition Platform - For Life” political party, as well as to restrict the rights of citizens on the basis of political convictions,” the MP’s appeal says.

Such actions, according to Vadym Rabinovych, undermine the state ideology of the unity of the peoples of Ukraine as a Ukrainian nation and prevent the return of Donbas to Ukraine, and of Ukraine to Donbas, and are perceived as provocative, which practically leads to the deadlock in the Minsk negotiation process.

“I draw your attention to the fact that the Minsk agreements, approved by the UN Security Council resolution and recognized by the entire world community, continue to remain uncontested for solving the main strategic issue for Ukraine – the issue of peace. But Leonid Kravchuk, having failed the negotiations within the TCG, actively destroying the Minsk negotiation platform, began to disseminate public statements and appeals containing propaganda for a split within the nation and threatening the territorial integrity, which could lead to the destruction of statehood. His statements testify to their orientation against the residents of Donbas, who are citizens of Ukraine. In particular, the comparison of Donbas with a “cancer” that needs to be “cut off” is an insult to the feelings of millions of citizens for their political, ideological convictions, and openly discriminatory on the basis of their place of residence,” the document emphasizes.

The co-chair of the “Opposition Platform - For Life” party insists: Leonid Kravchuk’s statements “require not only a political assessment, but also an appropriate response from law enforcement agencies, since such deliberate actions have qualifying signs of a criminal offense provided for in part two of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – an encroachment on the territorial integrity of the country and its inviolability, as well as public calls for such actions combined with incitement to ethnic hatred”.

Vadym Rabinovych drew the attention of Ivan Bakanov that he has already been approached by dozens of Ukrainian citizens who support the ideology, program and statutory goals of the party he co-chairs, with a request to protect their legal right to freely express political views, and demanding a legal assessment of Leonid Kravchuk’s statements, which are perceived as “a call to “burn out Opposition Platform - For Life from Ukraine”.

In this regard, MP Vadym Rabinovych demands that the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov carefully checks the facts set forth in his MP’s appeal, takes the case under personal control and ensures that Leonid Kravchuk is brought to justice as established by law.
